kittie time...

As Beka printed the last things of the semester (YAY!!!), Eva tried to figure out where the music was coming from... she even tried to paw my laptop speakers, but could never get the music to stop...

And Pushkin just slept on the couch -- snoring with his mouth and eyes open.

hanukkah/christmas

Doug went with Beka to Larchmont for the IFC Christmas and Hanukkah party. Plenty of fun with a side of crazy (aren't all holidays?). But we didn't really take pictures.

Beka's favorite moment was Andi, another teacher, saying "I have a fire maker and I know how to use it" before maniacally laughing and concluding, "and people let me teach their children?!?"

(Sarah Jo, this reminded me of you.)

feline navidad

Sometimes it is amazing what Pushkin puts up with...

This is a sample craft for the Christmas/Hanukkah Party tommorrow in Westchester. Or Pushkin's very own holiday dunce cap...

Lesson of the day from Eva: If you leave anything out, she will sleep on it -- including boxes of granola bars.

my what big eyes you have

We went to Moscot so that Doug could get his eyes dialated (He had gone last week and picked out frames and had the initial test). Doug was greatly amused by his eyes being dialated.

Beka got an eye exam and new frames. Pictures of both of us seeing clearly once our glasses are both ready (within a week).

craftacular craftacular

We saw a poster for a craft fair in our elevator and decided the $1 admission was totally worth it.

The first 300 (which we were in) got goodie bags. This included a bumper sticker, embroidery pattern, instuctions for rock candy and furniture polish, a button (with a rocket — for Doug), and candy.

This was one of the candies in the goodie bag. →

There were also "Candies from Strangers" and "Sour Ex's."

When we first got in there was a table for etsy. They had a corner of stuff — boxes and bags and... and... Anyway, For $5, you could stuff a small trash bag (think bigger than a gallon bag, smaller than a tall kitchen bag). This is the loot that Beka got... 9 fabrics, white buttons, rocket buttons, blue beads, red beads, two types of ribbon, and a skein of yarn.

yonkers...

For those of you not in the know, we are in an active apartment search. While we might not be moving until the summer still, we are looking into some places.

So last night we looked at a place in South Yonkers...

3 br, railroad style rooms, 3rd floor walk up, very nice landlord, but overall, not for us.

But the parts of the city were nice... this tree played cheezy Christmas music.

And get this... If you can't read the sign for the business next to Sam's Delicatessen, it is Wedge's Pizzeria. Yeah, really!

bad idea of the night...

Doug requested Beka's scratch brownies with carmel for his birthday.
She made them after class and let them cool a bit before trying to stick candles in...
Apparently it wasn't long enough.
So the candles wouldn't stand up straight, and Beka was afriad she might catch the apartment on fire...
And there is the requisite wax in birthday food...
maybe a little too much though...

harmonica in action

Doug's trying really hard to make "Happy Birthday" come out...

And for those of you keeping score at home, new things were back dated... here, here, here, here, here, and here.

happy birthday doug!!

happy, happy birthday, clappy
join us as we celebrate
clap your hands and dance around
have a laugh and eat some cake
happy birthday, happy birthday
happy birthday
you’re so great

have a drink on us tonight
drink too much, get in a fight
dance around on tabletops
get pulled over by the cops
it’s your birthday, it’s your birthday
it’s your birthday, hey, why not?

because we’re all gonna die one day
might as well have a good time
hooray

(Beka decorated while Doug was still asleep this morning... Thats a harmonica hanging over the desk...)
More of course later...

cow and moon

Doug thinks the caption should be: "The cow got lazy and never jumped over the moon."

sick...

We've both been sick, but now it is limited to stuffy noses and allergies...

But we found the coolest things ever...
Puffs with lotion and the scent of Vicks...
Frickin. Amazing.

snow...

This is the church in Larchmont where Beka teaches.

There's a wreath with cat toys in the classroom... but no cats in sight...

snow day

Doug was excited for our first snowfall.

Beka got almost to Flushing when she got an email that her class was canceled...

24 days of chocolate??

Somehow, Beka grew up with the parents she did and never had an advent calendar with chocolate...
(I know, really!?)

So we got two at Trader Joes (so we don't have to share.)

kitty ornament

While Beka was talking to her mom on the phone, she suddenly saw the Christmas tree shake and then almost fall over...

Eva managed to crawl behind the tree and get herslef stuck. When she finally came out, she took an ornament with her and just laid down again, like, 'what?'
